Description
Beaker Bob
40 different species of toucans live in the Neotropics. They don a bright colorful appearance with a large bill and an attitude which exhibits a strong desire to be seen and heard. They thrive on fruit, insects, eggs, lizards and small birds. Toucans don’t migrate and live in flocks of 6-12 in altitudes as high as 6200 feet. These birds can live 20-26 years in the wild. Large predatory birds, boas, and big cats mainly prey on the poor flying birds.
Toucans are resident breeders that choose old forests trees with holes they use for breeding. After 1-4 eggs have been laid, they will hatch naked with their eyes closed. In 45 days they are full sighted, feathered, and turned out to be independent although often they remain in their family group for a long time.
Height: 17”-22”
Weight: 13 to 20 oz
